About the Intramuros Administration
The Intramuros Administration (IA), a government agency attached to the Department of Tourism, was created in 1979 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1616 for the restoration and orderly development of the historic district of Intramuros as a monument to the Spanish history and heritage of the Philippines. The Intramuros Administration led by Administrator Atty. Guiller B. Asido, in partnership with FELTA Multi-Media, Inc. headed by its President and CEO Ms. Mylene Abiva, the official partner of LEGO Education in the Philippines, officially established by virtue of a Memorandum of Agreement in June 2017 the iMake History Fortress LEGO Education Design Learning Center.The iMake History Fortress LEGO Education Design Learning Center, a project for the adaptive reuse and restoration of the Baluarte de Santa Barbara Chamber in Fort Santiago, Intramuros, will be a creative and modern venue for training the youth to be architects, designers and engineers. With LEGO Education and its exclusive partner FELTA Multi-media, Inc., the center will feature LEGO learning materials, with trainings taking an interactive learning approach with the use of architecture/building, early engineering, history and computer programming activities as well as architecture/history modules to showcase the rich history of Intramuros and the Philippines. LEGO Education enables the youth to succeed in their architecture, design and engineering courses by igniting enthusiastic, effective, creative, lifelong learning using LEGO bricks. Through the center’s hands-on solutions, the foundation for the youth to become engaged learners are laid. The center is expected to open in October 2017. About the iMake History Fortress Architecture Scale Model Competition
The iMake History Fortress Architecture Scale Model Competition is a nation-wide scale model competition open to all universities and colleges in the country offering the undergraduate courses: BS Architecture, BS Industrial Design, and BS Engineering. A total of 12 schools were accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis, and are as follows: Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Don Bosco Technical College Mandaluyong, Technological Institute of the Philippines Quezon City, New Era University Quezon City, University of Baguio, Columban College Olongapo, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, National University, Kalinga State University, University of Santo Tomas Manila, Surigao State College of Technology, and De La Salle-College of St. Benilde Manila.To qualify for the contest, schools must create and submit a group to represent their institution, with at least 3 to 5 students, and with each student not under 18 and not more than 23 years old. Each team will be given an Intramuros landmark to recreate in a scale model. The following landmarks for scale modelling will be given to each participating group via lot: Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, San Ignacio Church, Santo Domingo Church, San Francisco Church, Recoletos Church, Lourdes Church, Ayuntamiento de Manila, Palacio del Gobernador, Intendencia, Hospital Militar, and Fort Santiago.Dimensions of each scale model entry should be 1:100 meters, with each being at least 70% made of LEGO bricks provided by FELTA Multi-Media, Inc. Each team will present a 2-3 minute video of the output, and upon submission, each model will be a property of the Intramuros Administration, for permanent display at the iMake History Fortress LEGO Education Design Learning Center in the Baluarte de Santa Barbara Chambers in Fort Santiago. Eminent external architectural experts and architects will be invited as members of the jury for judging the final output of each student group, with the criteria divided into four main parts, namely: (1) Project, 40 points, inclusive of creativity and quality of solution, research and report, and entertainment value; (2) Engineering design, 20 points, inclusive of technical understanding, structural stability, and aesthetics; (3) Presentation, 20 points, inclusive of a project video; and (4) Teamwork, 20 points, inclusive of a unified learning outcome, and inclusiveness. Prizes are as follows: PHP 50,000 cash for first place; PHP 30,000 for second prize; PHP 20,000 for third; and consolation prizes. Competition duration, meanwhile, are set from July 21 (deadline of registration) to September 30 (deadline of submission). Launch of contest is set on 27 July 2017.
