Houston, Texas, USA – April 14–20, 2025 – The Philippine Robotics National Team once again demonstrated world-class innovation and excellence at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) World Championship 2025, where 90 countries gathered under the theme “SUBMERGED” to showcase groundbreaking robotics solutions aimed at addressing challenges beneath the ocean’s surface.
Representing the country in two divisions were DepEd Bohol – JAPer Memorial High School for the FLL Challenge (ages 13–16), and Isidore de Seville Integrated School (Bulacan) for the FLL Explore (ages 7–9). Both teams delivered exceptional performances that brought pride and honor to the Philippines on the global STEM stage.
DepEd Bohol – JAPer Memorial High School: A Breakthrough Performance In the FLL Challenge category, the team from JAPer Memorial High School made waves with their project SEACURE, an eco-innovative robotic system designed to tackle marine pollution through efficient oil spill cleanup. Featuring a catamaran platform, a coconut coir-powered conveyor mechanism, and an underwater drone for real-time marine monitoring, SEACURE offers a sustainable, automated solution to protect marine biodiversity and ecosystems.
Their outstanding efforts were recognized with two prestigious awards:
FLL Breakthrough Award
FLL Robot Game Alliance Award – achieving a remarkable 560 points, one of the highest score among 160 teams from around the world.
This feat underscores the Filipino team’s ingenuity, environmental advocacy, and technical expertise in robotics.
Isidore de Seville Integrated School: Young Trailblazers of Innovation
Meanwhile, the Isidore Trailblazers from Isidore de Seville Integrated School brought home the Best Team Poster/Creativity Award, emerging victorious among 40 international teams in the FLL Explore division. Their project, titled “Beneath the Waves: Restoring Reefs with CoralFix,” captivated judges and audiences with its bold vision for coral reef restoration.
At the heart of their initiative is the CoralFix Robot, an autonomous robot capable of planting coral, removing debris, and applying vital nutrients to marine ecosystems. The project also features:
A Coral Nursery – for nurturing young coral species.
The Abyssal Bloom – an artificial reef that boosts biodiversity and promotes ocean resilience.
These young innovators, aged just 7 to 9, proved that age is no barrier to making a meaningful impact in science and environmental conservation.
A Celebration of Teamwork, Innovation, and Filipino Excellence
The Philippine Robotics National Team was led by Jed Abiva Sazon, FELTA Multi-Media Inc. Brand Activation Officer, alongside a strong delegation that included school administrators, DepEd Bohol Schools Division officials, dedicated parents, and enthusiastic supporters.
